Darker than Black Week 26: Madécasse Toasted Coconut  
This will be slightly shorter than the usual Darker than Black because I just wrote five and a half thousand words about video games. But I haven't done this in two weeks and wanted to get back into the the habit. Of writing, I mean. I never got out of the habit of eating chocolate.

The packaging claims that this company was started by former Peace Corps volunteers started the company in order to make chocolate "as a vehicle for social impact" in Madagascar. Going online, I found a whole page on their website here dedicated to the topic. I do not know enough about chocolate processing or about Madagascar's economic situation to comment on whether that is a worthwhile goal or a worthwhile way to go about it. But it's good chocolate.

Oh hey, their store page shows a 92% cacao dark chocolate bar. I should get one of those and try it.

When I opened the package, the back of the chocolate bar was covered in toasted coconut and I knew that everything was going to be okay. I suppose it might be considered cheating to coat chocolate in something when going for a flavor rather than including it in the chocolate itself and blending them, but don't care. I will freely admit that while I find the craft aspect of cooking interesting, all it is for me is a curiosity. It never rises higher than that.

This was good! It's better than the usual coconut chocolate I get, which is from Theo Chocolate and which I'm amazed I haven't covered before in this series. The coconut bits on the back added in the crunchy texture that I like in chocolate that's not Lindt 90% cacao, and didn't stand out so much that it was chocolate that happened to have coconut included with it. The coconut was integrated into the taste. I could see myself getting this as my go-to coconut chocolate instead of the Theo chocolate.

I don't like it as much as Raaka Thai Basil, Toasted Coconut, & Lemongrass, but then again, that's a really high bar to stand up to. I'd put Thai basil in nearly everything if I had enough of it and if it kept for longer than a day.  photo emot-sweatdrop.gif

I've had a few chocolate coconut bars in my day. I really enjoyed this one. The coconut was perfectly toasted and chopped to offer a pleasant crunch. The toasted coconut brought out some of the bitterness of the chocolate and left a nice aftertaste. My only thing was it had the potential to be messy but I seem to have escaped that this time!
I was also worried about bits of coconut getting everywhere because too much disorder around the apartment is like tiny knives in my brain, but we managed to keep it contained to the wrapper. It's not some hint I would want to eat on the move, but that just means I can take some time to savor it. Emoji Kawaii frog photo croaking_frog_emoji_by_kaidahthedragon-dabw3kq.gif
