So, tomorrow they turn on the Large Hadron Collider
Leading to all kinds of people worried that turning it on will somehow destroy the world, either by turning it into strange matter, creating a black hole, or something. One interview with a scientist went so far as to describe people with such worries as "twats," which I thought was a refreshing bit of directness. Even so, when I read about people's worries, all I can think about is, "Prepare for unforeseen consequences."

"They're waiting for you, Gordon. In the test chamber."

And my in-laws work there! :D

In fact, the LHC rap (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j50ZssEojtM) was filmed using their camcorder. And if you haven't seen it, you shoudl watch it, as it's amusing.

All this uproar about the LHC has irritated me to no end. You'd think that we as a species hadn't built particle accelerators before.

That said, I know where my crowbar is. Do you?
(ignore for one second the fact that I always know where my crowbar is. A tool you can't find is useless.)

The readers of Reddit have already thought to send the LHC team a red crowbar.

I prefer the Chicago Tribune article where a scientist from Fermilab equated the impossibility of black holes forming and consuming the Earth as "little pink elephants." But anything could help prove their theory so I say, Go Go Gadget Physicist!
(If only I knew how to say that in Swedish or Swiss German, I'd maybe be as cool as the CERN rap video on youtube.)
